Today is a milestone for me. Let me savour the date. It’s Saturday, December 17th as I write this, and I have an early Christmas present! It’s the gift of silence in my ears! Although I’m prepared to enjoy it, there’s a certain amount of apprehension and fear involved. Is this just a cruel moment, a taste of what life used to be like? Will it return, just as swiftly as it stopped? |

I remind myself if I was in the Southern Hemisphere I’d be listening to incredibly annoying cicadas at this time of year. But those little bugs don’t even begin to compete with the up close and personal right in the ear tinnitus noise. That’s because this noise is in your brain, but you hear it in your ears.
December 30
So early this morning I ordered a white noise machine online. It’s very tiny apparently, but also very efficient at noise-canceling unwanted noises. I decided 22 dollars is not too high a price to pay if you can achieve a lessening of the perpetual sound. I would use it on my bedside table.
Maybe the white noise machine would make it possible to kill two birds with one stone? Help me sleep, and reduce the volume of the tinnitus.
